On 5/2/1861 he was commissioned into Field & Staff NY 10th Infantry 
He was discharged for promotion on 8/31/1861

On 11/11/1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff IN 71st Infantry 
He was transferred out on 3/23/1863

On 2/23/1863 he transferred into Field & Staff IN 6th Cavalry 
He was Mustered Out on 6/27/1865
 (Subsequent service in US Army until retiring 12/11/1896)

Promotions:
* 1st Lieut 5/2/1861 (1st Lieut & Quartermaster)
* Major 9/1/1862 by Brevet 
* Colonel 11/11/1862 (As of 71st IN Inf)
* Lt Colonel 12/16/1864 by Brevet
