An excavated Louisiana Rectangular Belt Plate with large pelican inside laurel wreath. All three hook attachments are present on the reverse and is lead filled. This plate was dug by the late Bill Gavin who had one of the most esteemed Civil War relic collections in the country. The plate was acquired from Sidney Kersis via the "Waverly Collection" in August of 1958 (original tag / documentation provided). The provenance on this plate is impeccable. The "Horse Soldier" sold this plate in February 2013 for $5500. The same plate is now available for $4500. A must have for the serious Civil War relic hunter.
