Offered from a private collection is a Confederate Staff Officer sword manufactured by "Boyle & Gamble." The guard has a star over the letters CS all encircled by a wreath. It has an engraved blade with an unstopped fuller. The grip is leather with single strand brass wire and the best I have seen in quite a while. The leather scabbard is top seamed with typical B&G brass mounts. The etching on the blade is very light and worn but you can see the "C.S.A" lettering and vine pattern. The leather scabbard is intact with slight separation at the top seam and the brass drag is missing its pins. At some point the scabbard mounts were cleaned but exhibit an even patina. If you are looking for a nice example but don't want to spend over $15K+ than you may want to consider this sword. We believe it is priced right at $7500.
